Are You Experiencing Neck Pain? Try These Natural Remedies To Decrease Or Eliminate Pain

If your neck is hurting, you may be attempting to treat it yourself before you make an appointment with your doctor. Most neck pain relieves itself on its own, without the need for a doctor. Learning how to naturally decrease or eliminate the pain you are experiencing may help your neck heal faster or make you more comfortable. Here are three natural ways to decrease or eliminate neck pain.

Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salts help to relax the muscles in the body. They help to relieve tension and decrease swelling. The easiest way to use Epsom salts are in the bath. Simply dissolve two cups of Espom salt into a warm bathtub. Lean your head back a bit so your neck is soaking in the water. For maximum benefit, stay in the water for 20 minutes. Repeat this process daily for the best results. However, be aware that Epsom salt should be used sparingly if you have diabetes. Only use the treatment once per week if you suffer from this condition, unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Ice or Heat

Both ice and heat can help to naturally relive some of the pain and swelling you are experiencing when you have neck pain. However, it is always wise to pick the one that will best help you based on the symptoms you are experiencing. If you are experiencing swelling and/or a soft tissue injury, such as neck pain because of a car accident, you will want to use ice. If you have strained or sprained your neck, you will want to apply heat, such as using a heating pad. You can actually make your symptoms worse if you use ice when you should use heat or vice versa, so make sure you use the right method based on your injuries.

Lavender Oil

The last method you can use to try to decrease or eliminate your back pain is to have someone massage a few drops of lavender oil into the affected area. Massage helps to increase circulation to the area, which can help decrease stiffness and swelling. Lavender has been used since ancient times for medicinal purposes, including pain relief, though it is not known exactly how or why it works. Having someone massage the oil in to your neck area two or three times daily can help control or minimize the pain you may be experiencing.

Soaking in Epsom salt, using ice or heat on your neck, and massaging lavender oil in the neck will help neck pain caused by minor strains, sprains, or kinks. If your pain level does not increase or you are still experiencing pain despite using home remedies, you will want to make an appointment with your doctor.
